Jurojin, also known as the God of Longevity, is one of the Seven Lucky Gods in Japanese folklore and originates from the Chinese Taoist deity of the South Pole Star. He represents long life, wisdom, and serenity. He is often depicted as an elderly man with a long beard, holding a staff and a scroll or peach—symbols of immortality.
The deer, on the other hand, is an auspicious animal in East Asian culture. In Chinese, the word for deer (鹿 lu) is a homophone for “wealth” or “emolument” (禄 lu), making it a symbol of prosperity and high status. It is also believed to live a long life, and thus shares the association with longevity.
